the whisper of spring is such a welcome respite from the hold of a long, cold winter. but even with warmer temperatures, there is often still a bite in the air. these lacy handshoes (or fingerless mitts, as they are more commonly known) will keep your palms toasty enough while allowing your fingertips out into the fresh air after a few months hidden inside thick mittens. the lace also allows a wider hand to fit into them than the usual lace mitt.

needles: US 3 (3.25mm) dpns, or size needed to obtain gauge

yarn: 160 yards (146 metres), 40g of fingering weight yarn 
sample shown in lichen and lace’s 1ply superwash merino fingering (100% merino, 400 yards 366 metres, 100g) x 1 skein

notions: tapestry needle, 2 stitch markers

gauge: 28 stitches x 38 rounds = 4” (10cm), over reverse stockinette, worked in the round, blocked and unstretched
