sage has many variations in different climates around the world, including being a sacred medicine for many of north america’s indigenous populations and being a culinary herb staple across europe. while some species are destined for kitchens, others are poisonous, so take care to know which subspecies you’re using. there’s little doubt that it is a grounding and comforting herb to have around though, with a rich and savoury scent!

these handshoes are inspired by the culinary variety, whose narrow leaves dry to a delicious addition for autumn meals. be sure to include it somewhere in your mabon feast, and knit this unisex pattern for all the dear ones joining you!

needles: US 3 (3.25mm) dpns, or size needed to obtain gauge

yarn: 212 yards (194 metres), 55g of fingering weight yarn
