ME-MADE WARDROBE NOTES

  • we’re doing a live round of the me-made wardrobe mini course next month through january! join us in the community to participate.

  • i was a shaggy mane mushroom for samhain/halloween this year and made a hat with black walnut-dyed linen scraps and logwood-dyed cotton canvas scraps.

  • i sewed a pair of chataigne shorts with linen twill that have been on my to-do list forever, as well as an ogden with a bolt end of block printed naturally dyed cotton i picked up from maiwa’s sale table in september.

  • woven wool shawls dyed with locally grown dyes will be on the docket this holiday market season.

ON MY NEEDLES

  • this year’s advent calendar pattern made with roots flock and taproots will be available for individual purchase on december 1.

  • i finished up a pair of the fool socks with some absolutely gorgeous 80% mohair/20% wool from a quebec farmer that i picked up at twist this summer.

find more patterns here and yarn and notions in the shop! if natural yarns intimidate you, check out the knitting with natural yarns masterclass.

DYE POT NOTES

  • this year’s colour harvest has started in earnest! plant pigments, handmade paper, and frozen dye baths are how i’m exhausting as much as possible once yarn and fibre samples have been done. keep an eye out for the shop update later this month with sock yarn and finished wool shawls featuring some of the harvest.

  • i’ve been studying with my maiwa classes, and was so sad to hear of tim mclaughlin’s recent passing. i never met him in person, but studying his and charllotte’s chemistry course has been so enlightening and his energy shines through the classes.

check the creative coven community’s colour journal for my dye recipes, dye profiles, and more! and if you’re a #plantwitch, check out natural dyeing 101 and natural dye supplies in the store.

#BOSSWITCH NOTES

  • welcome to the new website! i hope you’re loving it as much as i am.

  • we’ll have a shop update sometime this month with roots, taproots, and pasture dk, our annual harvest sock yarn collection in collaboration with twin oaks farm again, naturally dyed silk embroidery thread, finished wool shawls, and some other goodies. join the newsletter to keep an eye on the specific date.

  • lots of classes are happening! check out the calendar to see what’s coming up both in-person and online.

  • achilee tales are a new short story collection i’ve added to the creative coven community. they’re coming out bi-weekly and are written to inspire your handmade wardrobe/kitchen witching/herbalism/natural dye adventures.

if you’re looking to start your own design biz, the creative coven’s doors are open 24/7.

WITCH LIFE

  • samhain season! i was a shaggy mane mushroom this year and willow was (briefly) a gnome. we hosted a pre-samhain supper at the house.

  • i’ve been eating pumpkins and gourds forever…

  • mortimer the crow is adorable and was very fun to make. i think he probably needs some friends soon.

the community is the best place to find my favourite things, from recipes to tutorials to book recommendations.

TEENY TINY COVEN NOTES

  • i made a little pumpkin village for samhain that was perfectly sized for my dolls.
